As you all know I have worn hair extensions for a long time, specifically clip-in extensions, (usually from Laced Hair). I have a 22” set and an 18” set and I wear them often, so it’s important to take care of them correctly and with high-quality hair care products. Extensions are expensive after all, so you want to protect your investment!
The Long Sexy Hair line is specifically formulated for long hair and extensions. Each product is infused with Moringa Oil and Biotin, which give hair moisture and shine. Common issues with extensions are dryness and damage, so you need a great detangler when brushing out the hair. If you’ve ever washed clip-in hair extensions, you know the struggle is REAL when you have to brush them out afterwards. The Long Sexy Hair Leave-In Detangler is my new best friend!
Here’s how I wash and care for my clip-in hair extensions:
- When my extensions are due for a wash, I use the Long Sexy Hair Shampoo and Conditioner. I tie my extensions together as a bundle with a clear elastic and wash in the bathtub, I find it easiest.
- Make sure you COMPLETELY rinse out the shampoo and conditioner, it can be tricky when the hair is in a bundle, but just KEEP rinsing until all bubbles are gone.
- After washing, I apply the Long Sexy Hair Leave-In Detangler to the middle and ends of the extensions. Then carefully brush the hair out so the product distributes evenly.
- Next, I apply the Long Sexy Hair Blow Out Soft & Gentle Dry Spray, and brush that through the hair as well. This protects the hair when blow drying and keeps moisture locked in for shine.
- Now, blow dry! My favorite technique is to take off the hair elastic, and lay the hair extension tracks on a cabinet door top, and keep the cabinet door closed with my foot. (see below) Then I take my round brush and blow dry the extensions. TRUST ME and just blow dry the extensions. For some reason every time I try to air dry them, something is weird and the texture ends up odd. Just blow dry and you’ll have beautiful, fresh extensions.
When I’ve been wearing my extensions for a few weeks, they can pick up smells from the places I go, or oils from my hair. That’s when I mist them with the Long Sexy Hair Dry Shampoo. Again, specially formulated for long hair and extensions! You DON’T want to be washing your extensions too often, so dry shampoo is a great way to lengthen the time between washes.
I use this routine religiously when I need to finally cave in and give my extensions a wash. It’s also nice because the products aren’t just for extensions, I can use every single product on my long hair and get the same great benefits! It’s what you call a win-win. The scent is also wonderful, so clean and just a tiny bit floral.
Sexy Hair was also nice enough to provide me with a coupon code for my readers! Get 15% off the Long Sexy Hair product line with code ‘LONG’ on SexyHair.com.
So have you ever worn extensions? What do you use to care for them?
