Today I’ve teamed up with Folica to bring you a tutorial for one of my go-to hairstyles, Easy Loose Curls! It doesn’t get more easy or classic than this style, I do it all the time and it only requires a few things!
- When my hair is still damp, I spray Theorie Altitude Volumizing Spray at my roots, then blow dry to give my hair an added boost of lift and texture.
- A heat protectant is a necessity when using heat tools like curling or flat irons. I use Theorie Heat Shield Thermal Spray before I use any heat on my hair. Bonus - it smells amazing. You can either spray it all over the hair before you begin curling, or you can spray on each individual section before you apply the curling iron.
- Clip the top layer of hair up and out of the way. You can use as big of a section as you want but I tend to do just the top-most layer to save on time.
- I’m using the Hot Tools Professional Spring Curling Iron in 1.5″. I’ve used this specific model for years and highly recommend it! Start at the back and curl small sections of hair. Alternate between curling away from your face, and curling towards your face as you go. I try to do it so that I’ll curl one section away, and then the next section towards, then the next section away, etc. That makes it so that when you’re done, the curls don’t all just kind of bunch together. That is another way to do it but I just prefer this method.
-When you get towards the front sections of hair (hair around your face) ALWAYS CURL AWAY FROM THE FACE. Any sections close to the face should be curled facing away from the face. Just a rule of thumb that I always live by!
- Continue curling the other side of hair the same, away from the face, then towards, then away, then towards… until you get to the hair around the face and again, always curl those away from the face!
- Take down the hair in the clip, and brush it out. Divide into two even sections and again, take sections and curl but this time curl ALL of the top layer AWAY from your face. This top layer will sit on the rest of the hair so you don’t need to worry about the curls all curling in the same direction. Be careful on the hair around your face, especially if you have layers - you can usually leave the curling iron on the hair for a shorter amount of time than the rest of the hair, try to minimize heat exposure as much as you can! It’s about striking a balance between heat and the curl you’re trying to get. Test out different heat settings on your curling iron and use the lowest heat you can to still get the results you want.
- When you’re done with the top layer, take a layer at the back of the head where your part would “end” and curl that hair back, this gives you a little volume and makes a nice transition for the curls when viewed from the back.
- Spray all over with your favorite hairspray, mine is Redken 28. Brush the curls out with your fingers and you’re good to go!
Again I’ve used the 1.5″ size Hot Tools curling iron for years and I just can’t find one I like more - plus it’s only $35 and they last forever. **Get 10% off your order on Folica through 9/12 using code LITTLEJSTYLE!
