Today we’re talking LIPS! I’m huge on making sure my lips are exfoliated and soft at all times - it drives me nuts if they’re chapped or dry. You guys know I use LipSense religiously and it helps SO much to have my lips primed, and my color lasts that much longer. This is one of my top ways I keep my lips exfoliated at home! I also have more tips for everyday maintenance at the end of the post, so let’s get to it…
My preferred way to use my lip scrub is in the shower, but have you ever tried to take photos of a lip scrub in the shower?! Nope, a little too difficult not to mention scandalous! So let’s just roll with it…
Personally I just pour some sugar into my hand (don’t stick your fingers in the container, it’ll get clumpy and hard) and scrub my lips GENTLY. I think with exfoliation people tend to go crazy and scrub way too hard. Skin is sensitive and a little effort goes a long way. Make sure you mix some water into the sugar and make sure your lips are wet too, so it isn’t too abrasive. I like to use some kind of a sealable container, like a mason jar or an old cosmetics container, whatever you’ve got on hand. In the shower the condensation will get into the jar if it’s open. If you keep something by the sink, an open bowl like this one works just fine.
Another popular tactic is to add coconut oil to the sugar scrub. That’s a great method to use when you keep a jar by the sink to use when you need a scrub outside of the shower. I’ve done that in the past and loved the results, but for simplicity’s sake I just do the sugar in the shower and the results are similar enough.
Another important step I take is to use my Senegence LipBalm every night before bed. Having that moisture on my lips all night is a big factor in keeping them soft. You have to remember to use SOMETHING at night before bed, it truly makes a big difference.
Side note - I’ve also been using the LipSense LipVolumizer every night so I’ll keep you updated on those results. I like to test everything thoroughly before I ever tell you guys about a product - so we’ll see if I get some great Kylie Jenner lips! (Just kidding, she’s a disaster.)
(Applying Purple Reign LipSense)
You probably don’t want to be sugar scrubbing your lips every night - they just don’t need it but every few days or when you feel like you could use a little exfoliation, go for it!
I also love to use a washcloth dipped in warm water and gently rub it over my lips to cleanse them and exfoliate any products before applying any LipSense color. You’d be surprised when you’re applying foundation and powders how much gets on your lips and can cause LipSense colors to not adhere correctly.
I hope some of these tips help you to keep those lips in tip top condition! There’s even some evidence to suggest that exfoliation can promote collagen production in the lips and can help to keep them healthy and plump. Remember to always apply moisturizer in a good lip balm and be gentle when scrubbing!
Oh and this adorable pink leopard robe is on sale for $15, it’s so adorable and makes getting ready for bed fun! But size up. 🙂
