My Top 5 Favorite Essential Oils

December 23, 2016

I feel a bit like I’m revealing some kind of secret with today’s blog post! I’ve talked about my favorite essential oil diffusers (here) but never really talked about what essential oils I actually use.

For about 3 years now I’ve been an avid Doterra oil user. Most of you are probably familiar with what essential oils are, but just in case, this is from Dr. Axe’s website and I thought it described them well: “The particles in essential oils come from distilling or extracting the different parts of plants, including the flowers, leaves, bark, roots, resin and peels. Essential oil benefits come from their antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.”

There are tons of ways to describe essential oils, but I like that short description. People have been using oils for centuries, and their effects are well documented.

Personally, I use essential oils because as I’ve grown older, I’ve become increasingly aware of what I’m putting on and in my body. There are thousands of chemicals in everyday products, medicines, and supplements we use and it can be really overwhelming. I really want to simplify and minimize the medicines and products I use, so completely natural essential oils became my answer.

This will make more sense as I go on, so let’s jump into my top 5 favorite essential oils! (In no particular order.)

  • Serenity

Years ago I used to have trouble sleeping. It’s almost weird to think back on now because I sleep so well, but I would just toss and turn for HOURS in bed, trying to turn my brain off even though I was exhausted, it took me hours to fall asleep. This was when I first heard of Doterra and someone told me about Serenity for sleep. I was desperate so I think I paid full retail price for Serenity (I didn’t know about becoming a member at the time) and I started using it. Serenity is what converted me to an essential oil user. I’d rub it on the bottom of my feet before bed, and when I first started out I’d soak a cotton ball in oil and keep it right by my head while I was trying to fall asleep. (Now I use a sleep mask and put a drop on the mask before bed.) IT JUST WORKED. I was able to fall asleep quickly, and could not believe how well it worked. My husband thought I was nuts, but I was falling asleep in minutes and sleeping well through the night, so he couldn’t argue with the outcome!

Serenity remains one of my favorite oils. I use it before bed religiously. I keep some in a roller bottle in coconut oil and rub it on my feet and the nose part of my face mask before bed, and I am OUT. It is also great for relaxation in general, so I know a lot of people just keep it on hand for when they feel tense or anxious. FYI Serenity is a blend of Lavender, Cedarwood, Ho Wood, Ylang Ylang, Marjoram, Roman Chamomile, Vetiver, Vanilla extract, and Hawaiian Sandalwood.

  • Balance

Balance is a fairly recent addition to my essential oil collection. It is a blend of Spruce needle/leaf, Ho wood, Frankincense, Blue Tansy Flower and Blue Chamomile Flower by Doterra. I was getting very stressed out from life’s daily struggles, and wanted something with a calming, grounding effect so I started using Balance. I LOVE the scent and it works wonders to just calm me down and make me take a step back.

  • Lemon

Lemon is a GREAT starter oil. It can be used for so many things, like cleaning and even brightening up your daily water intake. In the summer, I make a roller ball of wild orange and lemon and use it as perfume, it also cheers me up and helps me de-stress so I feel like I’m constantly rolling it on. 🙂 It’s also super inexpensive so everyone needs Lemon essential oil!

  • OnGuard

OnGuard was probably the 2nd oil I started using religiously. I have a notoriously bad immune system, so I’m always seeking out new supplements and strategies for staying healthy, especially in the winter months. I SWEAR by OnGuard for immunity. It’s a blend of Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Bark/Leaf, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils. The very first time I tried it, I felt a cold coming on so I soaked a cotton ball and literally just SNIFFED it all day, I looked like a total weirdo. I also swiped it on the bottom of my feet. I couldn’t believe it, but I didn’t get fully sick! I had a day I think of feeling bad, and then it just went away. Normally I get sick and I am out for about a week. Absolutely 100% love this one.

  • Wild Orange

Wild Orange is like Lemon in that EVERYONE loves it. I literally use it as perfume because everyone loves the scent, and I find it cheers me up throughout the day. If I ever need some energy or a pick-me-up, I inhale or diffuse Wild Orange. It’s also so yummy in water! I love that it’s so versatile and smells delicious.

Well there we have it, my top 5! As of right now I have 26 oils in my collection, so these are just the tip of the iceberg, but I decided I finally want to share about these oils that I use every single day. If they can help even 1 person like they have helped me, then it will have been worth it.

Now, in honor of today’s post I’m doing an INSANE giveaway with my essential oil group! We are giving away the AromaTouch Diffused kit PLUS a free 1-year wholesale membership to Doterra PLUS access to our Facebook group and mentoring and help from me and my team.
